Basketry Workshop: Random Weave Sculpture with Bangalow Palm – MOSMAN, NEWCASTLE, CRONULLA, KENDALL

Join an immersive basketry workshop led by an internationally award-winning basketry artist and learn the ancient technique of random weave basketry in a relaxed, supportive environment. This one-day basketry workshop is designed so you leave with a completed handwoven basket or wall sculpture. Random weave basketry is a sculptural technique that requires time, guidance, and hands-on practice—this workshop provides all three.

Whether you are new to basket weaving or looking to expand your skills, you will create a beautiful sculptural piece, even if you don’t consider yourself creative.

Learn Random Weave Basketry Using Natural Materials

During the workshop, you will explore sculptural basketry techniques using Bangalow Palm inflorescence, a versatile and organic weaving material. You’ll learn how to work intuitively with found natural fibres, shaping form through movement, rhythm, and touch rather than rigid rules. This basketry class focuses on exploration, play, and creative confidence, not perfection. It is ideal for beginners, first-time weavers, and intermediate makers wanting to deepen their practice.

Expert Tuition in a Small Group Setting

This workshop is limited to a small number of participants to ensure personalised tuition from expert basketry weaver Catriona Pollard. All materials are included. If you have access to Bangalow Palm inflorescence, you are welcome to bring it along. Preparation notes will be provided after booking.

Suitable for beginners and intermediate weavers. No prior basketry experience is required.
