Welcome to the School of Basketry Art

Comprehensive and fun online basketry courses where you will learn how to weave like a pro (even if you don't think you can).

It’s a joy to welcome you to my School of Basketry Art.

Maybe just like you, I came to basketry because I wanted to explore my creativity. About 10 years ago I was near burn out, and needed to find a creative outlet that was away from the computer and the hectic life we all seem to be living now.

I feel like basketry found me. I booked into a workshop, and almost instantly realised it was exactly what I was looking for.

Now my basketry art work is hung in galleries and private collections with many solo exhibitions and selected exhibitions and it is finalist in many art prizes.

But do you know what I love? Teaching.

It brings me so much joy to see my students learn to love it as much as I do. I teach in my studio in Sydney, as well as residentials and internationally.

It wasn’t until I had so many requests from people all over the world who follow me on Instagram asking for an online course, that I thought ‘Imagine if I can teach people who can’t get to my workshops’.

And the School of Basketry Art came to life. And it’s for you.

In these video based courses you can learn at your own pace, stop and start as many times as you want! As well as begin the course whenever you want.

They are super practical and suitable for beginners and intermediate weavers or anyone who simply wants to explore their creativity.

I just know you will end up with gorgeous finished sculptural baskets and the confidence to do more!

Gorgeous twining with patterns for every level

Learn how to weave stunning baskets with patterns even if you have never woven before by following my easy to understand step by step instructions

It’s a basketry technique that once you’ve learnt the fundamentals, you can unleash your creativity and apply it to so many materials and forms to create stunning baskets and sculptures. How exciting is that!

One day I decided to experiment with weaving patterns into a basket using different coloured material. And it’s so much fun I wanted to share it!

You may be wondering:

  • What exactly is twining? (I’ll tell you all about it)
  • I can’t weave (if you’ve never done weaving before – perfect! You’ll love it)
  • Can I do it even if I don’t have any creativity? (yes you can!)
  • I don’t know what materials to use (oh so many, but I will tell you exactly what to get)
  • I know how to twine, but are patterns too hard? (No, not with my instructions!)

By the end of this course, not only will you have multiple gorgeous baskets, but you will be confident in this basketry technique.

You’ll learn the proper technique, how to start and do multiple finishes as well as the patterns including straight line, diagonal, checkerboard, chevron and three rod wale.

BONUS – I wanted to share one of my favourite things to do – weave onto driftwood – so I added that as a bonus at the end because I was too excited about this course not to!

This course is for you if:

·      You don’t have any experience weaving patterns.

·      You only know one or two ways to start and finish a basket, but want to learn more.
