- Cross-disciplinary learning sparks new connections and innovative ideas.
- See impermanence as a strength—let wind, water, and time collaborate with you.
- Stay flexible and allow plans to evolve organically.
- A meditative practice—focus on each movement, texture, and placement rather than rushing toward completion.
- Walking through landscapes, gathering materials, and arranging them is a rhythmic, body-engaging process.
- Let movement guide creativity—wander, explore, and let ideas emerge organically.
- Use constraints as creative fuel – Limited materials, environmental conditions, or temporary timeframes can spark new ideas.
- Accept change and let go – accepting that wind may scatter leaves, water may wash away patterns, or time may erode structures. Instead of resisting, embrace the transformation as part of the beauty.

ABOUT CATRIONA POLLARD – Award winning fibre artist and international corporate speaker and trainer
Catriona Pollard is an award-winning fibre artist, international speaker, and corporate trainer known for her inspiring and transformative approach to creativity and business. A sought-after keynote speaker, she delivers engaging, practical, and motivational presentations that empower attendees to immediately implement new insights for real results.
She has presented a TEDx talk and shared her expertise with thousands of people across the globe, working with leading organisations including TEDx, DELL, CeBIT, CPA Australia, Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, and the University of Sydney, among many others.
As a result of intense stress and pressure from her business she recognised she was facing burnout, and to help resolve this she decided to reconnect with creativity—not as a pursuit of perfection but as a form of exploration, play, and mindfulness.
This shift was transformational, unlocking new ways of thinking, problem-solving, and embracing change. In addition to making changes to her business, it led to writing a book, launching online business, and developing a fresh leadership approach that harnessed the collective strength of her team. Creativity became the foundation for resilience, clarity, and success.
Through nature-based art, she discovered new perspectives on business challenges, risk, and innovation. This journey not only reshaped her business but also propelled her to international recognition as an acclaimed artist, using traditional fibre techniques to transform foraged plant fibres and recycled metals into evocative sculptural works.
Her art investigates the deep relationship between humans and nature, exploring transformation, energy flow, and the potential for harmony with the ecological world. Her intricate weaving techniques create repetitive patterns that symbolise interconnection, while the interplay of shadows and form sparks conversation around light, dark, and balance.
Catriona has exhibited in numerous solo, group, and touring exhibitions, including the Australian Design Centre and Sturt National Craft Centre. Her work has been recognised in major art awards, including the Australian Textile Art Award, International Art Textile Biennale, National Capital Art Prize, Environmental Art & Design Award, and Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize.
Her sculptures are featured in galleries, high-end design spaces, and private collections nationwide, and her work has been profiled across major art and design media. She has been featured on ABC TV and Gardening Australia and a feature in Good Weekend, SMH/The Age. and is profiled in the book Woven Together: Weavers and Their Stories.
As a passionate educator, for over 10 years she has facilitated nature based training and sculptural basketry workshops in Australia and internationally, teaches for leading design and craft institutions, and founded The School of Basketry Art, an online platform with students worldwide.

The workshop was lovely, I loved playing with the materials and am delighted with what I came up with. I’m looking forward to incorporating it into my art practice. Thank you, Catriona, for being such a generous and kind teacher. Gillian
Thank you for your fantastic workshop on Sunday. I have been fortunate enough to find myself collecting and connecting to nature yesterday and this morning. May it stay that way. I love looking at my little sculptural ‘basket’ – it’s colours are changing and it’s just magical – it makes me happy. I feel more centred. Such a gift – thank you again. Kim
Thanks for the workshop. I enjoyed it immensely. You were very encouraging, insightful and considerate. Christine
“Catriona Pollard is one of my very inspiring teachers. I've attended her weekend retreats and 5 day course. A generous and kind teacher.” Jules
It is not always that the practitioner can teach, but despite her own high level of skill, Catriona knew that we needed to learn the elements of the craft before letting loose our imaginations; understood, also, how difficult twining and cording, weaving and binding is for newbies.
Patiently she demonstrated and repeated (again and again!) until our hesitant fingers danced to newly mastered rhythms. Her rich imagination and her technical skills together with a profound understanding of the inspiration to be found in natural plant materials enabled us to twine our souls into an exhilarating world of creativity.
Thank you, thank you Catriona. And basketsfulls of love and thanks to Sturt; also to the wonderful women with whom I shared my indulgent week.
Remember……Just start. Sarah
Your workshop was the best I have ever attended or likely to. It was so complete with our written work, discussions, meditations, ephemeral art, as well as all the great techniques and the total class commitment and enthusiasm. Rachel
