Your workshop was the best I have ever attended or likely to. It was so complete with our written work, discussions, meditations, ephemeral art, as well as all the great techniques and the total class commitment and enthusiasm. Rachel
Art in Nature: exploring your creativity – booked out
2-4 April, 2018
Waverley, South Taranaki
Limited to 10 people
Slow down and gift yourself the time to find the secret life in natural objects.
You may walk past a fallen branch and not even notice it, but maybe it’s the beginnings of a sculpture. Explore the joy of picking up a vine, stick or seed pod and imagine what they could be.
Over the three days, you will experience ephemeral art on the beach which is a fun, inspirational experience that excites your imagination, perception and creativity – and makes you see the world around you in a different way.
Over two hours you will work directly in the natural environment guided by a series of exercises in creating ephemeral art. You will create one work or a series of works that integrate into the natural environment.
Then we will spend two days exploring creativity and basketry. This workshop is all about exploration and play not perfection. Using found materials we will then explore traditional basketry techniques including twining and random weave
We all have new growth ready to emerge, and basketry can help you reconnect with your imagination, nature and give you new insights and perspectives.
CREATIVITY and INNOVATION WORKSHOPS FOR ORGANISATIONS
These workshops are from 2 hours to a day (even a week) and are used in team building, experiential experiences for organisations and to assist teams/organisations to develop new concepts and ideas by accessing creativity and new ideas. Extremely powerful and transformational. Forget brainstorming, try creating a sculpture out of sticks and leaves.
PLAY and WEAVING WORKSHOPS FOR GROUPS and ORGANISATIONS
Slow down and gift yourself the time to find the secret life in natural objects. We are surrounded by the beauty of nature, but so often we are too busy or digitally connected to slow down and reconnect with it. Catriona’s workshops are all about exploration and play, and unlocking your creativity.
Experience and explore sculptural basketry techniques and learn how to create something from found organic material just using your hands and imagination. By the end of the experience, you will have a sculptural form and a deeper understanding of the wonderful art of weaving, and your creativity.
Suitable for Adult and weaving beginner.
Get in touch if you would like to tailor a workshop with your work/friends/community/art group etc. Go to Contact us to chat about it.
The workshop was lovely, I loved playing with the materials and am delighted with what I came up with. I’m looking forward to incorporating it into my art practice. Thank you, Catriona, for being such a generous and kind teacher. Gillian
Thank you for your fantastic workshop on Sunday. I have been fortunate enough to find myself collecting and connecting to nature yesterday and this morning. May it stay that way. I love looking at my little sculptural ‘basket’ – it’s colours are changing and it’s just magical – it makes me happy. I feel more centred. Such a gift – thank you again. Kim
Thanks for the workshop. I enjoyed it immensely. You were very encouraging, insightful and considerate. Christine
Led by the dynamic and richly talented Catriona, we mastered new techniques and learned so so so much more about the creative process.
It is not always that the practitioner can teach, but despite her own high level of skill, Catriona knew that we needed to learn the elements of the craft before letting loose our imaginations; understood, also, how difficult twining and cording, weaving and binding is for newbies.
Patiently she demonstrated and repeated (again and again!) until our hesitant fingers danced to newly mastered rhythms. Her rich imagination and her technical skills together with a profound understanding of the inspiration to be found in natural plant materials enabled us to twine our souls into an exhilarating world of creativity.
Thank you, thank you Catriona. And basketsfulls of love and thanks to Sturt; also to the wonderful women with whom I shared my indulgent week.
Remember……Just start. Sarah
